What Happens If MY Dog (or cat) Eats My Aligner?

1. Don't put it back in your mouth! Clean it thoroughly and evaluate how bad the damage is. Is it minor damage? A clean break? Completely mangled? Chances are it will need to be
replaced!

2. Call Your Invisalign Provider
Call your dentist immediately. They will guide you based on your specific treatment plan. They may suggest the following:

Wear the fractured aligner if it still fits and is holding its shape.

Move on to your next aligners ahead of time (if you are close to your next scheduled change).

Go back to your previous aligner to maintain your progress while a replacement is ordered.

3. Never Skip Wearing an Aligner
Most important is to keep your teeth moving or at least keep them in place. Not wearing any aligner for a couple of days can make your teeth lose weeks of progress. Even if your aligner is slightly damaged, it's usually better to wear it than to wear nothing.

4. Avoid Future Damage
To prevent further mishaps:

Always keep your aligners in their case when they're not being worn.

Don’t eat or drink anything (besides water) while wearing them.

Remove them carefully—don’t twist or bend too hard.

A broken aligner isn’t the end of the world, but it does require quick action. Keeping your provider in the loop and following their advice is the best way to stay on track with your treatment. With a little care and timely communication, you’ll be back to straightening your smile in no time.
